Jorge Estrela was a key figure in the genesis of the Leiria Museum, whose painting collection he helped save and studied in depth. It is not only in this role that he deserves to be remembered in this house, because to his deeply cultivated look we owe a multidisciplinary reading of a territory, where painting, poetry, botany, geometry or gastronomy were systematically explored, as part of a whole. inseparable, and shared, with particular enthusiasm, with those around him. It is this very special way of looking at the world, so rooted in the territories of Leiria, that we try to make known to all of those who did not have the privilege of knowing him and enjoying his “free man's curiosity”.
